AGRONOMY
The Agronomy study program provides students with knowledge and practical competencies for understanding, planning, and improving food production – from soil and plants to modern technologies, resource management, and agroecosystem sustainability. The program integrates general education subjects (chemistry, biochemistry, mathematics, sociology, etc.) with core scientific disciplines (botany, meteorology, pedology, microbiology, genetics, plant physiology). On this basis, students are trained to apply knowledge from professional subjects and fields (basics of plant production, agricultural machinery, plant breeding, cereal and grain legume cultivation, industrial crop cultivation, vegetable growing, forage crops, irrigation, precision agriculture systems, agronomic adaptations to climate change, etc.) under various production conditions.
The goal of the Agronomy study program is to educate experts with integrated theoretical and practical knowledge for understanding, planning, and improving plant production and food production systems. A particular goal is the development of competencies for sustainable management of crop and vegetable production, the application of agro-ecological and climate-smart technologies, sustainable land use and conservation of natural resources, as well as the use of digital technologies in agricultural production. The program develops students’ abilities for analysis, planning, and problem-solving, independent decision-making, communication, and teamwork in various production and professional environments.
Why enroll in the Agronomy study program?
The study program offers a well-balanced blend of theoretical knowledge from various scientific fields and practical skills, helping students develop analytical abilities and competencies necessary for managing modern agricultural systems. The practical focus of the program is also reflected in practical training and production internships, which are an integral part of the studies. Agronomy opens up wide opportunities for employment and professional development in various sectors, provides a solid foundation for continuing an academic career, and enables students to contribute with their knowledge to the modernization of primary agricultural production and the development of the food production value chain in Serbia.
Agronomy prepares students for the challenges of future agriculture and is an excellent choice for those who want to dedicate themselves to management in agro-industrial systems, as well as to improve their own farm production. The acquired knowledge and skills help students adapt production to altered climatic conditions, use resources efficiently, improve technologies, and solve complex problems in agriculture.
Studying in this program gives students the opportunity to prove themselves in scientific research work, as well as to engage in cooperation with other higher education institutions in the country and abroad through projects and mobility. Agronomy provides opportunities for personal development through a mentorship relationship with professors, access to modern technologies and research, and orientation toward real labor market needs and global trends.
Where can you find employment after graduation?
Upon graduation, graduated agricultural engineers can, in accordance with the requirements of a specific job position, work in:
- entrepreneurial organizations and private farms engaged in plant production;
- companies for the production and trade of seeds, fertilizers, and plant protection products;
- agricultural organizations, such as agricultural combines and cooperatives;
- advisory professional services;
- companies providing agronomic support in the application of precision agriculture and digital technologies in plant production;
- banks and insurance companies;
- secondary education, vocational schools, and related educational institutions;
- food production companies, as well as enterprises for the purchase, drying, and storage of agricultural products;
- scientific research institutes, innovation centers, and research and development centers within the economy;
- the state sector, in jobs within the fields covered by this program.
The program provides the foundation for further academic improvement at the master’s and doctoral studies levels.
